About
Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi is one of the best family attractions in South Texas, and it's worth the drive even if you're coming from San Antonio or Houston. It's a full-day destination with enough variety to keep everyone from toddlers to teenagers engaged.
The dolphin shows are what most families come for, and they don't disappoint. The Caribbean Journey dolphin theater is well-designed with good sightlines from most seats, but it fills up fast — especially on weekends and during summer. Get there 20 minutes early and you'll be fine.
Beyond the dolphins, there's a solid walk-through aquarium with Caribbean reef exhibits, a jellyfish gallery (weirdly hypnotic for all ages), and multiple touch tank stations. The horseshoe crab and sea star touch areas are free-for-all for kids — no time limits, no lines most of the time. Toddlers will park themselves there for 30 minutes.
The outdoor areas are where this aquarium really separates itself. Tortuga Cay has a Caribbean-style splash pad that's included with admission — no extra fee. On a hot Corpus day, this is a lifesaver. Bring swimsuits. There's also a bird rescue area with pelicans and herons.
Admission runs about $38 for adults and $28 for kids 3-12. Not cheap, but the splash pad, outdoor exhibits, and dolphin shows make it a solid 3-4 hour visit. Kids under 3 are free. Annual passes pay for themselves in 2 visits.
Parking is free, which is a pleasant surprise for a waterfront attraction. The cafe serves burgers, chicken tenders, and fries in the $8-$14 range. If you want something better, downtown Corpus is just a few minutes away.
The 4D theater is an add-on (around $5 extra) and worth it for kids 5+. The motion seats and water sprays get big laughs. The aquarium is right on Corpus Christi Beach, across from the USS Lexington museum — you can do both in a day.

Why Kids Love It
The dolphin shows are the showstopper — the trainers make them interactive and educational without being cheesy. The Tortuga Cay splash pad lets kids cool off on hot Corpus Christi days. And the touch tanks with horseshoe crabs and sea stars keep little hands busy for way longer than you'd expect.
