The Charlotte Knights play Triple-A baseball at Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte, and a Knights game is one of the most reliably enjoyable family outings in the city. Minor league baseball has an inherent family-friendliness that major league games often lose — tickets are affordable, the stadium is intimate, and the atmosphere is festive without being overwhelming.

Truist Field is a genuinely beautiful stadium. It opened in 2014 and was designed to frame the Uptown Charlotte skyline as its backdrop — the view from the first-base side, looking past home plate toward the city's towers, is one of the best stadium sightlines in the country. Capacity is about 10,000, which means you're close to the action regardless of where you sit.

The Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, which means you're watching legitimate professional players — either prospects working their way up or veterans on rehabilitation assignments. The level of play is noticeably higher than you'd see at lower minor league levels, and occasionally a recognizable name passes through.

For families with young kids, the lawn berm in left-center is the ideal seating. It's the cheapest section, entirely grass, and kids can spread out, run a bit, and watch on their own terms. Pack a blanket. The stadium also has a small kids' play area in the outfield area.

Friday night games include post-game fireworks — the best complete evening experience at Truist Field. Saturday games often have theme nights or giveaway promotions. Midweek games are calmer and typically have shorter food lines.
