About

Wonders of Wildlife in Springfield, Missouri is one of those places that genuinely surprises you. It's attached to the Bass Pro Shops flagship store, which sounds kinda weird, but the museum itself is a legitimate world-class aquarium and wildlife experience. It was voted America's Best Aquarium, and after you walk through it, you'll understand why.

The museum is split into two main sections: the aquarium and the wildlife galleries. The aquarium side features a massive open-ocean exhibit with sharks, rays, and sea turtles, plus a walk-through tunnel that puts you right in the middle of a shark tank. Kids lose their minds in there. There's also a touch tank where younger kids can handle horseshoe crabs and sea stars.

The wildlife galleries are where things get really different from a typical museum. Instead of animals behind glass in white rooms, you're walking through full-scale recreated ecosystems — a Louisiana swamp, an African savanna, an arctic ice shelf. The taxidermy is museum-quality and the scale is hard to describe until you're standing in it.

Toddlers and little kids treat it like an adventure through different worlds.

Tickets run about $30 for adults and $20 for kids 4-11. Kids 3 and under get in free. For a family of 4, you're looking at $100-140 including a casual lunch at the on-site cafe.

The whole experience takes 3-5 hours depending on how deeply your family gets into it. Wear comfortable shoes because you'll cover serious ground. The building is fully indoor and climate-controlled, making it a perfect rainy day or hot summer afternoon activity.

One thing worth knowing: the exit dumps you directly into the Bass Pro Shops, which is its own spectacle. The flagship store has indoor waterfalls, massive aquariums, a bowling alley, and a shooting range. You could easily spend another hour in there without buying anything.

Springfield is about 3.5 hours from St. Louis, so this is more of a day-trip or a stop if you're road-tripping through Missouri.

Why Kids Love It

This place is massive — 350,000 square feet of aquariums and wildlife exhibits. Kids flip out over the walk-through shark tank tunnel and the 4D simulator ride. The wildlife galleries are set up like you're actually walking through different ecosystems — swamps, forests, arctic tundra — with taxidermy so realistic that toddlers will try to talk to the animals.
