About
Children's Museum Oro Valley at Tohono Chul is a satellite location of Children's Museum Tucson, embedded within the stunning Tohono Chul botanical garden in Oro Valley — the affluent community north of Tucson. The setting is what distinguishes this location from its downtown sibling: walking out of the interactive children's exhibits directly into a lush Sonoran Desert garden full of native plants, desert tortoises, hummingbirds, and cactus varieties that only grow in this corner of the world.
The museum itself is sized appropriately for young children. Hands-on exhibits cover science, art, and imaginative play at a scale designed for the toddler-through-kindergarten demographic. The space is intimate rather than overwhelming, which works well for families with very young children who can get overstimulated in larger institutions.
The real magic is the integration with Tohono Chul's botanical garden. The park features over 600 varieties of desert plants, meandering paths through themed garden rooms, and resident wildlife including javelinas and Gila woodpeckers. A combined visit to the museum and garden fills a morning beautifully for families with children ages 1-8.
Tohono Chul also has an on-site restaurant with garden views that works well for a post-visit lunch.
Note the extremely limited hours: the museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9am to 1pm only, and closed on Mondays. Plan your visit carefully. Children's Museum Tucson members receive access here with their membership.
This listing appears under the Sedona city_slug due to a data pipeline geography issue; the museum is physically in Oro Valley, Arizona, approximately 90 miles south of Sedona.
