Pack Square Park

Pack Square Park sits at the center of downtown Asheville and serves as the city's main public green space. For families, it's the most useful free stop in the city — a playground and seasonal splash pad right in the middle of everything, with dozens of restaurants within a short walk.

The splash pad is the summer highlight. It runs from roughly Memorial Day through Labor Day and is completely free — water jets and spray features at kid height. Bring a change of clothes because kids will get soaked and you'll want them dry for the restaurants or shops afterward.

The playground equipment suits younger kids well (roughly ages 2-8). Older kids may find it less compelling, but the open green space is good for running around while parents recover from the hills of Asheville's downtown.

Pack Square is also a hub for free community events. The park hosts summer concerts, festivals, and the Asheville Downtown Association's various events throughout the year. It's worth checking the schedule before your visit — you might land on something.

Practically, it's an ideal mid-day reset point. Walk downtown, stop at the park for an hour, then continue to a restaurant for lunch.
